Are Beauty Filters Harmful or Harmless?

What’s your opinion on beauty filters?

I have to admit, they make me sad. No judgment here if you’re using them. I get it. There’s so much emphasis on our looks and on our youth. I think most of us have either tried them or been tempted to.

Not sure who needs to hear this:

You are beautiful as you are.

🙂 You’ve got lines when you laugh or smile? Keep laughing and smiling!

🧫 Got splotchy skin? Acne? Rosacea? You’re not alone! I’m the President of the Splotchy Skin, Acne and Rosacea Societies! Let’s normalize what real skin looks like.

🍔 Embarrassed about the COVID 19 you gained in the past couple of years? Be kind to yourself. You’ve been through a lot!

How do we stop this rollercoaster of obsession with perfection? Every generation is facing more pressure than the last to be some online ideal of beauty. I'm here to tell you that you don't need a filter. You are ALREADY beautiful. Everything that makes you unique and YOU is what makes you beautiful.

I know I'm not the only one who feels this way!! I'm happy to see more and more brands raising awareness about the negative impact of filters. Take a look at Dove’s video on this issue!

What do you think? It gave me chills to see how much that beautiful person changed themself to please others.

Something else to think about for small business owners is authenticity. Ninety percent of consumers report that a brand’s authenticity is a determining factor in whether they support that brand.

The next time you post on social media, try dropping the filter and show us the real you!

What do you think of filters? Are they harmless or harmful?
